Cantores continues to be a successful, happy group and our standard of performance throughout the year has been improving with each event, building up a good reputation for us in the local areas. Funds generated from our concerts help to support local venues and donations are gratefully received by the organisers.
The Spring concert at Lyminge church in March was well attended and enjoyed by an appreciative audience. A varied programme included some John Rutter folk songs, Wesley's Ascribe Unto the Lord and several movements from Vivaldi Grloria. There was an added bonus of Adrian and David performing a marvellous piano duet - Mozart's Sonata in B flat and their improvisation for piano and organ, masterfully reworked three movements of Vivaldi's Gloria into some truly amazing sounds.
Cantores were invited to sing again with the Mustard Seed Singers at St Peter's church, Canterbury in May and quite a few choir members attended this event. The evening proved to be a huge success with a varied programme performed with and without music by the Mustard Seed Singers, Harmony 6 (a group of Canterbury Christchurch students) and Cantores, all performing to a packed house.
We were asked to sing for a wedding in May which was held at Monks Horton church. Weddings are always very enjoyable and also provide an extra income for the choir.
Lyminge Prom 12 July - What a fantastic evening this was! We performed a selection of music ranging from Rutter’s folksong arrangements and South Pacific to the usual rousing anthems to Queen and Country. There was an audience of 90 enthusiastic concert-goers and funds were generated for the Lyminge Village Hall Maintenance Fund
Remembrance Concert 8 November - Cantores achieved a high standard of performance at our concert at St Paul's Church, Sandgate. Cantores together with Elham Valley Voices (Directed by Jackie Spencer) gave a stunning performance of Adrian's piece written especially for the occasion, the now unforgettable 1914 'And they went to war'. The children of Elham Valley Voices sang beautifully adding another dimension to the piece. We were accompanied by Martin Cove - trumpet, Rob Spoore timpani. Steve Yarrow - Bass soloist and piano, Angela Scott-Smith Soprano soloist., Rod Spencer - organ, Jane Brown, Adrian Smith, Julius Bannister and Ginna Harris - string quartet. A total of £300 was raised for Help 4 Heroes.
Sibton Park 13 December Carols at Sibton Park is now an annual event and proved to be a really great night. It was a concert with the most positive audience participation and the Christmas spirit was truly at Sibton Park on this night. Adrian worked his magic yet again with the choir and audience and together with David Reece-Williams produced some really beautiful sounds.
Methodist church - 18 December - This was a repeat of Sibton Park programme which included 'And all the Bells' arranged by Adrian and everyone's favourite - Sweet Chiming Christmas Bells, which involved much audience participation. There was a good turn out and those present had a really good evening.
Our very successful year was rounded off with drinks and snacks at the Coach and Horses in Lyminge
